Approach
The Drexel Fund is looking for two types of school organizations to invest in:

  1. High-performing individual faith-based and other private schools interested in replicating their successful school models and developing a school network.
  2. High-quality, nonprofit private school network operators engaged in growing the scale of their network.
Application process

The Drexel Fund team is working with on-the-ground partners in each of its six focus states to identify promising applicants. Following initial contact with a Drexel Fund staff member and confirmation that the applicant meets the Drexel Fund’s criteria, applicants will be invited to complete an initial screen of academic and operational data. Once the applicant successfully makes it through the screen and has received an initial site visit, they may be invited to apply for a business planning grant or simply be invited to submit a multi-year plan for network growth, incorporating both network and school growth projections.

A collaborative approach

Funding will be available to support the implementation of multi-year growth plans for new and existing networks of high-performing schools that serve low and middle income students. While the Drexel Fund anticipates making a significant investment in its portfolio members, it does not expect to be the sole funder and will look to partner with local funders sourced by the applicant.

Portfolio members will develop an ongoing relationship from an assigned Drexel Fund staff member, who will monitor the investment closely, including attending board meetings and reviewing annual milestones. Portfolio members will also benefit from an annual convening of Drexel Fund portfolio members to network and share best practices with some of the best growing private school operators in the country.
