Autism Inspired, Inc., is a non-profit organization established to provide camps for children with autism that provide the structure and consistency needed to ensure success over school breaks. After parent testimonials of the camp’s success, co-founders Elizabeth Russell and Cher Harris felt compelled to create that same type of environment in a school for children with autism to promote continued social and academic success. A parent of a child with autism and a successful businesswoman, Liz participated in Drexel’s Founders Program in 2018-19 to develop the school model and prepare it for launch. Autism Inspired Academy opened its doors in the fall of 2020 to provide a safe, nurturing, and structured learning environment for children with autism and related disabilities. AIA works collaboratively with parents, utilizes innovative teaching strategies, and applies the necessary therapeutic supports to allow each child to reach their greatest potential. Located in Pinellas County, Fla., AIA plans to reach a capacity of more than 100 K-12th grade students by 2027.
