Jamie Buckland, a dedicated home educator and advocate for educational reform, is the executive director of Appalachian Cottage School (ACS), a proposed K-12 agriculture and liberal arts school rooted in the Charlotte Mason philosophy of education. For the 2024-25 school year, ACS will pilot a hybrid homeschool/in-person model on the Buckland family farm and prepare for an expansion to a “full school” for 2025-26.
A veteran of parent-supported education, Jamie co-founded the Appalachian Classical Academy in 2016, where she developed a one-day-per-week tutorial program for homeschoolers, fostering a dedicated community of educators and families. In 2022, as the founder and executive director of West Virginia Families United for Education, she led initiatives to transform K-12 education statewide, collaborating with leaders to implement effective solutions in light of recent policy changes. Jamie’s advocacy work includes serving as a legislative liaison for the Raleigh Educational Association for Christian Homeschoolers, where she helped pass the Homeschool Sports Access law in West Virginia. As a consultant to unconventional educational entrepreneurs, she provides expert guidance in business, administration and curriculum development for school founders in over 40 states.
