Michelle Hendrix-Nora

Michelle R. Hendrix-Nora is the Founder of Rising Phoenix Academy (RPA), an innovative faith-based, place-based middle school designed to empower students through academic excellence, cultural identity, leadership development and social-emotional wellness. With more than 25 years of experience in education and community leadership, she has dedicated her career to creating equitable opportunities for students and families. As a teacher, principal, special education leader, coach and mentor, she has led school improvement initiatives focused on increasing student achievement, strengthening school culture, expanding family engagement and removing barriers to success. A devoted advocate for underserved youth and communities, Michelle is also the founder of H.E.A.R.T.S. (Help Educate At-Risk Teenage Students) and co-founder of the Rising Knights HBCU College Tours. Her commitment to service, mentorship and educational equity has earned her numerous recognitions, including the Nina Simone Community Leader Award, Wisconsin’s Most Influential Black Leaders recognition, the YWCA Racial Justice Award, the Beloit Hometown Hero Award, the Herb Kohl Teacher of the Year Award and the YWCA Women of Distinction Award. Michelle holds degrees from Hampton University, the Academy of Art University and Northwestern State University and is currently pursuing a PhD in educational management.
